As time goes by, Neon lamps, which once symbolized the prosperity of the city, have also become bleak under the impact of new technologies. Since 2006, the number of Neon lamp companies in Shanghai has shrunk by 90%, and many of them are facing the fate of closing down. In order to preserve the beautiful past of Neon lamps, "Neon lamps Museum" is actively planning.

Less than 90% of enterprises have declined in a century

Building a museum "to preserve the last neon culture"

"I want to keep the last neon culture." The voice of Chen Guan, deputy director of the Shanghai Advertising Association Light Source and Sign Professional Committee, was a little helpless. Not long ago, the committee she was in was called the "Neon Lamps Professional Committee". , with the rise of new light sources such as LEDs, Neon lamps have gradually lost the market. In order to meet the needs of development, the 22-year-old committee has also changed its name.

In the vicissitudes of life, when the first Neon lamps appeared in Shanghai in 1926, no one would have thought that in less than a century, the dazzling lights known as "goblins" would be impacted or even replaced by new technologies, gradually disappearing from people's vision middle. According to the statistics of the Neon Lamps Professional Committee, since 2006, the Neon lamps market in Shanghai has shrunk by nearly 90%. Street” on Anyuan Road, there are very few shops selling Neon lamps left.

Recently, Chen Guan is busy preparing for the establishment of the "Neon Lamps Museum", hoping to call on colleagues in the industry to donate Neon Lamps works and production equipment with chronological significance, and display them to citizens and tourists in a corner of this bustling city, recording a period of glorious history.

According to the plan, this unique "Neon Lamps Museum" in China will be built in a creative park in Shanghai, covering an area of about 600 square meters. On the basis of the development status and products of China's Neon lamps industry, it also showcases the achievements of emerging light source technologies at home and abroad. The museum will be divided into four exhibition areas, focusing on displaying Neon lamps production equipment, imitation Neon lamps works, etc., and will set up an interactive area for Neon lamps production process.

"We hope that the Neon Lamps Museum can display various styles of Neon lamps in different periods since the birth of Neon lamps in Shanghai, so that everyone can recall the art of Neon lamps in Ye Shanghai."
